World Kidney Day is on March 14, 2013, and this year it is focusing on Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), “to raise awareness of AKI and stimulate discussion, education and policy development leading to improved prevention and treatment of this major kidney disease across the globe”.

The Sustainable Kidney Care Foundation (SKCF) has had the eradication of AKI in the developing world, as its mission since 2007 and it’s refreshing to see that the global kidney community has madethis their goal for 2013. SKCF and its partnering institutions have peritoneal dialysis treatment programs for AKI in Tanzania, Cameroon, Benin, Ghana and Ugandawith more in the works.
