World Kidney Day is on March 14, 2013, and this year it is focusing on Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), “to raise awareness of AKI and stimulate discussion, education and policy development leading to improved prevention and treatment of this major kidney disease across the globe”.

The town of Moshi sits at the foothills of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro where the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center (KCMC) is located. In 2009, a group of doctors, nurses, surgeon and laboratory specialists descended on KCMC to start the acute kidney injury treatment program using a very basic treatment called peritoneal dialysis.
